Rossiter makes a welcome return

It was a beautiful day for cricket but as usual these days we lost the toss and were duly inserted on a good batting track. Evan fancied his chances of getting a good start and opened the innings with Mark East. They did not however count on some accurate bowling by second placed Guildford and after 7
overs the score was a paltry 4 runs, two of which were extras. In an effort to brake the deadlock a couple of risky singles were taken and then Evan was run out with a direct hit attempting another single. This brought Sean Travers to the crease and he and Easty went about repairing the damage.

The scoring rate was still rather slow and at drinks (25 overs) there were only 70 runs on the board and we had lost Easty in the process, who was caught behind for 29 having just hit a beautiful on drive for a boundary. Simon Driessens was unlucky to be given out LBW but Sean(36), Paul Ungerer(36) and Seb Baugh(39) all made useful contributions and we managed to creep to 193 for 7 in the 54th over at which point the declaration was made.

Guildford attempted to go for the win from the start but at 33 for 3 (all to Tim Rossiter) things were looking up for the OW's. A 4th wicket stand of 85 however made their heads go down and although there were a lot of bowling changes in an effort to dislodge the pair, a win for the OW's seemed remote. When DoubleD Donald finally removed one of them and Tim Rossiter then got two wickets in one over (Donald actually held one of the catches), at 146 for 6 the match could have gone either way. Guildford however batted sensibly, assured themselves of the winning draw and ended on 179 for 7.

Tim Rossiter bowled beautifully in his first match of the season and nearly picked up his 7th wicket with the final ball of the day, when he spilt a hard caught and bowled. Sean Travers, Ago and Dinesh also bowled well and they were all unlucky not to get any wickets between them. Although the OW's got a losing draw and only a single point, this was a much more exciting game than last week's debacle: everybody contributed with bat, ball or just fielding and it was an all round team effort.We are almost half way through the league season now and the 2's will have to start winning some games if they're going to have any realistic chance of getting promoted.
